VALVES, THEIR TYPES AND THEIR USES

Valves are a simple mechanical or simple electro-mechanical device that are used to control the flow of gases, liquids, powders, etc. through the pipes or the tubes from the tanks or other containers. Mostly, the valves depend on the design of mechanical barrier i.e., a ball, a plate, a diaphragm that can be inserted and removed from the flow stream of the material that is passing by. Some of the valves are designed into on-off models, while others are designed to allow proper control of the path of substances.

Types of Valves

Ball Valves

Ball Valves supplier, made a kind of valves that incorporate ported spheres that rotate in the pipe stream to either block, or allow, flow. They are quarter-turn valves that are used practically when the flow of the fluid must be shut off from a compressed-air line to a high-pressure, hydraulic system.

Butterfly Valves

Butterfly Valves suppliers, made a quarter-turn valves which employ centre-mounted circular flaps that swing into, and out of, the flow stream. These valves are used in wastewater plants, power plants, and process plants for shut-off and for regulating & isolating services.

Check Valves

Check Valves allow the fluid to flow through them in one particular direction only and are often suited for high-pressure applications rendering them highly effective in low-pressure applications. Double door check valves use two half-circle gates or wafers that are hinged at the centreline of the valve port and open downstream in the direction of flow.

Gate Valves

Gate Valves supplier, manufacturers  type of valves primarily used for blocking fluid flow and for flow regulation. It uses a plate-like barrier which can be lowered into the flow stream to stop the flow. The plugs usually seal both the up & downstream parts of the valve while the plates seal only on the upstream part.

 Globe Valves

The Globe Valves Supplier, made spherical shaped valves that have a globe-shaped disc that restricts the flow by closing against a constricting orifice. These valves are used for shut-off and regulating also in food processing facility, wastewater plant and process plant.

Plug Valves

The Plug Valves are similar to a ball valve since they are also quarter-turn valves that are used to manage fluid flow through a pipe, using a ported plug instead of a ported ball that swivels in the to allow or constrict flow in the stream enabling these valves to be used for shut-off. They are also used as control valves for the processing plant, chemical process industry and wastewater treatment facility.

Industrial Uses

All the above-mentioned valves can be deployed in a wide range of industries which includes food and beverage, chemical processing, gas transmission, oil and gas, mining, and power generation.

Important Attributes

Valve Size :

Valve size varies generally in both inches and millimetres corresponding to the size of the pipes they used with.

Pressure Rating :

The valves are usually given rating according to the ANSI standard of 150 psi,300 psi, 450 psi and 600 psi which is in accordance with the standard pipeline ratings.

Port Connections:

In a valve a union refers to the type of connections on a valve body that allows it to be fitted into a pipeline without moving/removing the pipes. The connections can be fixed in many smaller valves used for the water service.

Other Features :

There are certain designs which are more suitable to be bubble tight than others, specifically those valves that are intended for on-off service and those that are used mainly for flow regulation processes.
